Perform DUMP over SSH tunnel

  • Boot FreeBSD cd, set up partitions correctly
  • boot FreeSBIE
    • login as root, no password

<pre> killall dhclient ifconfig <interface> inet <ipaddress>/<netmask> route add default <default router> umount /mnt newfs -U /dev/ad0s1a mount /dev/ad0s1a /mnt/ vim /etc/ssh/sshd_config, PermitRootLogin yes passwd, set root password /etc/rc.d/sshd start </pre>

  • login to source machine for dump

  1. edit /etc/rc.conf and set up hostname and IP info for new machine

dump -0aLf - / | ssh <ipaddress> "cd /mnt/ && cat | restore -rf -"

  1. revert /etc/rc.conf
